In 1873, the tea export industry of Sri Lanka began with a modest 23lbs being shipped to London. Tea will grow well only on rolling terrain and is classified be elevation into low grown ,medium grown, high grown, into 3 main groups. In 1996 Sri Lanka has produced 258 million kgs. of tea and has earned Rs. 34,068 million by exporting 244 million kgs. of tea.
Nuwara Eliya - The 'Little England' of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but is really just like an England spring day although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.

Rawana Falls – A nice waterfall of 90m altitude close to the road from Ella to Wellawaya about 6km south from Ela. The stream, a tributary of Kirindi Oya plunges with a foaming spray over a series of ledges into the vally close to a road bend. The waters rise from Wewatenns highland above the rocks (1050m NN). In general the rocky underground of the waterfalls in Sri Lanka consists of hard gneiss or granite, but here the metetiel is khondalite, a kind of limestone which undergoes decay faster. Thus there are caves near the falls. Rawana of Ramayanma legend is said to have lived none of the caves above the water falls.

After breakfast visit the Wewurukannala temple.
Wewurukannala – 15 miles east of Matara is the town of Dikwella, where there is one of the most extraordinary Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. The Wewurukannala Vihara temple is dominated by an image of a seated Buddha. It is 160ft high, the largest statue in all of Sri Lanka and dates back to the time of King Rajadhi (1782 – 1798). The temple has three parts, the oldest being about 250 years old. The next part has life size models of demons and sinners shown in graphic detail. If you don't follow the path to enlightenment this is what happens to you. Punishments include being drunken in boiling cauldrons, swan in half, disemboweled and so on. Finally there is the enormous seated Buddha that is as high as an eight storey building.
The temple walls show you the path towards enlightenment by depicting hundreds of comic strip representations of events in the Buddha's lives. Among one of the episodes is the Chulla Dhammapala Jataka. It tells the story of how King Maha Prathapa of Varanasi on entering the palace found the queen cuddling her seven month old child. After ignoring him the King was left insulted so ordered that the prince be executed and the body be thrown into the air. Several Jataka Stories are also amid the paintings, which where selected for Vesak stamps in 1991. One depicts The Kattahari Jataka showing Prince Kastavahana, son of King Brahmadatta resting with his entourage Thereafter visit the Mulkirigala Rajamaha Viharaya (Temple)
Mulkirigala – is an imposing rock with remarkable cave temples located 21km north from the town of Tangalle in the district of Hambantota. This enormous boulder known as 'little Sigiriya" rises almost perpendicularly for over 200 metres out of the surrounding palm forest .Mulkirigala consists of a series of rock temples carved out of the face of a huge rock outcrop built in the 2nd Century. B.C. Mulkirigala Viharaya is a Buddhist temple complex that ascends and crowns the rock. It is a temple of great antiquity with fine murals.
